EG4 18kPV

EG4 18kPV FAQs

The EG4 18kPV is only one of the photovoltaic inverters that we offer here at BigBattery, and like some of our other options, it is much more than just an inverter. This post will answer some of the main questions surrounding it and what it does.

  • What does this device do?

The EG4 18kPV is fundamentally a solar inverter, which means it converts (or more properly, inverts) the direct current (DC) from your home’s solar panels into alternating current (AC) that the home and grid can use. With that said, it is more than just an inverter and also has advanced features for power control, charge control, monitoring the health of a home battery backup system, and more. Think of it as one point of control for the whole home’s power system.

  • What does the kPV stand for?

The 18kPV in the name of the EG4 18kPV stands for the fact that the system can handle up to 18000W of power input, specifically PV input from a solar system. The “PV” in this case stands for photovoltaic, which is one of the names for a solar system’s energy generation capabilities. The panels contain photovoltaic cells that produce energy in the form of electricity when they are excited by sunlight.

  • Can the EG4 18kPV handle my home’s solar system?

To answer this question you need to know how much power your system can generate under ideal conditions. If it is less than 18000W of power, then the EG4 18kPV can handle it. If it produces more power than this you will lose some of it. We also sell other systems, such as the EG4 12kPV, that offer different power input ratings (in the case of the latter, 12kPV).

  • How much continuous power output can it deliver?

In the case of the EG4 18kPV, it can absorb 18kW, but it can also maintain 12000W of continuous output. Whether or not this is sufficient for your home depends on your current energy usage and needs, but the average home in this country can use about 5000W to 10000W at peak consumption. Contact us or consult an electrician if you still have questions.

  • Is it for off-grid or grid-tied systems?

The EG4 18kPV supports both grid-tied and off-grid systems, as well as hybrid installations, making it an incredibly versatile solar inverter.

  • Is it compatible with our batteries?

Yes, the EG4 18kPV is compatible with select BigBattery batteries and systems, including our ETHOS and EG4 batteries.

  • What sorts of safety features does it offer?

The EG4 18kPV is rich with safety features that improve its performance as well as safety not just of your home battery backup, but your home’s entire electrical system. For instance, this solar inverter has built-in breakers that improve safety by helping to prevent a circuit from getting overloaded and shutting it off if it does.

  • Can it be installed outside?

This solar inverter is not specifically designed to be installed outside but we have other options that are.

  • Does it offer any user-friendly features?

The EG4 18kPV solar inverter has numerous user-friendly features such as easy, straightforward plug-and-play installation, an easy-to-read LCD screen that enables simple diagnostics and monitoring, and a transformer-free design that lowers weight, making it easier to install the inverter.

  • What else does it offer?

In addition to the features and functions mentioned here, this solar inverter offers peak load shaving which reduces energy consumption and improves the efficiency of the system, along with UPS backup that prevents power loss, as well as smart energy management including peak load shaving to further reduce energy waste and improve efficiency. It also sports triple MPPT inputs to maximize energy production.

  • What guarantees are offered in conjunction with it?

The EG4 18kPV is covered by a 10 year warranty and is covered by lifetime, US-based tech support. We also offer free shipping on orders of $3000, which can save you on your order, depending.

  • What certifications cover this solar inverter?

The EG4 18kPV is covered by UL 9540 certification as well as ETL and cETL certifications. It is built to a generally high standard of durability and is optimized for an easy, user-friendly install, streamlining a home’s electrical infrastructure, specifically one that has supplementary solar power.
