A home solar power system works best when its major components are sized around both your energy use and the way you plan to use the system. BigBattery solar kits bundle compatible components into system configurations, helping simplify the process of building a residential solar setup without selecting every major component separately.
Before choosing a system, consider your average energy consumption, available solar capacity, battery storage requirements, inverter output and whether you expect your energy needs to grow. A smaller household with essential loads will have very different requirements from a home running high-demand equipment throughout the day.
BigBattery’s solar kits are available in different battery capacities and inverter configurations, allowing you to compare systems based on the amount of stored energy and power your home requires.
What Comes in a Home Solar Kit?
A solar kit brings together compatible components needed to build the core of a home solar power system. Depending on the kit, this may include battery storage, an inverter and other system components configured around a specific power and storage capacity.
Always check the individual kit specifications before purchasing, since included components vary between systems. Solar panels and installation equipment may also be sold or configured separately depending on the kit.
Building a DIY Solar System?
A solar kit can simplify a DIY solar project by reducing the number of major system components you need to select independently. Start by determining your home’s energy requirements, then compare battery capacity and inverter output across available systems.

Common questions about solar kits
Is a kit cheaper than buying the battery and inverter separately?
The price is the same as the parts — a kit exists so the pairing is already checked, wired and warrantied as one system, not to discount the hardware. What it saves you is the risk of buying an inverter that will not talk closed-loop to your battery.
Why does a bigger kit sometimes cost more per kWh?
Because the price includes the inverter. A kit with a 13kW hybrid inverter carries far more electronics than one with a 6.5kW off-grid inverter, so its cost per kWh of battery looks higher even when the battery is identical. Compare kits within the same inverter class, and use the price per kWh on our batteries page to judge the battery alone.
Can I add more batteries later?
Yes — every kit here is built to expand. The ETHOS kits scale to 46kWh, the EG4 WallMount kits to 85.8kWh, and NEXUS to 214.5kWh. Adding capacity later does not mean replacing the inverter, so start with what you need now.
Do I need a UL9540 kit?
If the system connects to the utility and needs a permit, almost certainly yes — UL9540 certifies the battery and inverter together as one energy storage system. Purely off-grid builds with no interconnection generally do not. The FlexBOSS, 12kPV and 18kPV kits cover UL9540.
Does the kit include solar panels?
No. These kits are the battery and inverter — the storage and conversion half of the system. Panels, racking and wiring are sized to your roof, which is why we quote them separately. Send us your roof details and we will size the array to match.
What does the price shown cover?
The base configuration — the smallest battery and inverter count for that kit. Every kit is configurable on its own page, so adding batteries or a second inverter changes the total. Pick the configuration you want there and the price updates before checkout.
