EG4 GridBOSS

Spotlighting the EG4 GridBOSS and Its Utility for Homes with Solar Energy Systems

Homes with supplemental energy systems, like solar energy systems, need home battery backups. These systems store the surplus energy generated by the alternative system so that it can be used during non-peak hours.

These home battery backup systems are absolutely necessary for off-grid infrastructure, but even for grid-tied systems, a battery energy storage system will deliver the homeowner the flexibility to make use of all the energy produced, rather than sacrificing some back into the grid.

Now; homes with alternative energy storage solutions need home battery backups. Homes with battery backups and alternative energy systems need power gateways and micro-grid interconnected devices like the EG4 GridBOSS, which simplifies power management, code compliance, and more.

Let’s take a closer look at the EG4 GridBOSS and what it offers.

What It Is and Does

To keep things as simple as possible, the EG4 GridBOSS is an MID, or “microgrid interconnection device,” which in plain terms means it is a simplified solution for connecting all of your generators, inverters, and electrical infrastructure into the grid, all in one single organized system.

It significantly streamlines and cleans up all of the wires, mounts, switches, and more that typically make an unsightly and electrical mess in homes that have supplemental power sources such as solar power.

First we need to understand what this thing actually does. It is effectively a gateway that connects an entire off-grid system to your house, but also offers the flexibility to connect to the grid. Contained within it are the transfer switches that control where your power is coming from, that is, whether from the grid or from your alternative power system.

A system like this will also manage your home’s AC load as well as the inverter and if your home has one, a home battery backup system. It is effectively one device through which all of the power is routed and managed.

This “gateway” also makes it a lot easier to expand the system if you want to add more inverters, for instance. Since many inverters are sold with integral switches, having a separate but central gateway that manages all of that not only streamlines power management, but installation costs, as you don’t necessarily want a whole entire new inverter just because your system might need a new switch.

On top of that, this point makes microgrid interconnection devices, or gateways, highly valuable because they create scalability that does not exist with separate inverters and switches on their own.

The EG4 GridBOSS also packs some other intelligent features, such as load-shedding, which gives you the flexibility to divert power according to exigency. Features like this also allow you to designate certain power supplies as critical, so that even if the grid went down, you could maintain power to the most important systems.

In addition, intelligent electrical gateway devices like this also offer other smart features that enable you to connect to home battery backup systems which work in conjunction with either the grid or with alternative energy sources, like home solar systems.

These gateways also significantly streamline the wiring associated with multiple external transfer switches by consolidating the infrastructure into one, clean unit. This in turn reduces the complexity of the electrical setup and reduces maintenance and installation costs, all while allowing for significantly expanded scalability.

More Information on the EG4 GridBOSS

Now let’s take a closer look at some of the specifications associated with the EG4 GridBOSS.

This MID weighs only 55 pounds, making it easy to lift, transport, and install. It has a maximum power handling of 200 amps, more than enough to keep up with the entire home (assuming 200 amp service or less), and it is covered by a UL certification.

As for connections, it has three hybrid inverter ports up to 90 amps, along with 4 smart load ports, 2 rated for 60 amps, one for 80, and another for 125 amps. It also has connections for the grid and generator along with a manual bypass.

Another interesting feature of this MID is that it has the ability to shed non-mandatory loads so that power consumption can be prioritized according to your schedule and availability.

One more unique feature of the EG4 GridBOSS is that it can be controlled remotely via Wi-Fi, which is another selling point.
