The first number in an IP (for “Ingress Protection”) rating gives its level of protection against particulate ingress. In this case, the “6” indicates the highest possible level of protection against particulate ingress. This EG4 all-weather battery is completely sealed, allowing no dust in whatsoever.
The second number in an IP rating communicates the level of protection offered against moisture ingress. In this case, it is “5”, which signifies that the device is protected against water jets from any direction. Whether you spray the thing with a house or it gets rained on, it’s fully protected.
For what it’s worth, this outdoor battery also comes with battery cables that are equipped with weather-tight quick connections, further improving its durability when installed in locations that are exposed to the weather.

Self-Heating Design
Lithium batteries, even those that are used for home battery backup systems, can be damaged if they are charged or discharged when the ambient temperature is low.
Fortunately, since this is an EG4 all-weather battery, it is outfitted with a self-heating feature that boosts the internal temperature when the ambient temperatures are low.
This not only improves the performance of the battery with respect to consistency of power output, but it also protects the battery’s cells against damage when the battery is charged or discharged when surrounding temperatures are low.
E-Stop with Rapid Shutdown Capability
This EG4 all-weather battery sports an innovative emergency stop (E-stop) that can shut down not only all batteries in the system but also all inverters with just the push of a button.
It also sports RSD, or “rapid shutdown” that almost instantaneously cuts all power when initiated, which can become necessary in the event of an emergency.
Being able to cut all power significantly increases the safety of this battery pack for home battery backups, especially as the complexity of the system grows, or in installations wherein more than one battery is installed.
Advanced Battery Management Protection with Thermal Suppression
This EG4 all-weather battery is protected by an advanced battery management system that provides multiple layers of protection to the battery, among them voltage, current, and health management, all of which mitigate electrical risks. The battery management system also smart balances the battery’s cells, upholding a long service life of up to 15 years and more than 8000 expected cycles at 80% depth of discharge.
With respect to safety, however, this battery management system helps to prevent overheating, and this battery features active thermal suppression to keep temperature under control when charging and discharging. This helps to prevent thermal runaway experienced by some thermal batteries, controlling the fire risk.
In addition to the rapid shutdown and emergency stop features of this battery, the BMS also has a shutoff feature that kills power if adverse conditions are detected.
Dual Onboard Fire Arrestors
Following on the thermal suppression feature of this battery, it also is outfitted with dual onboard fire arrestors that effectively offer failsafe protection against thermal runaway.
In other words, even if all of the other safety features fail and this battery overheats as a result of thermal runaway, there are two fire arrestors built into the battery that are intended to kill a fire if it breaks out for any reason.
